Woodlook and Wooden Blinds Measuring

Hints:

  • NEVER use house plan/window schedule sizes.
  • ALWAYS use a metal tape measure, record sizes in order of width x height in millimetres.
  • Measuring width from the top of the frame is crucial, as this is where brackets will be placed.
  • We don't recommend laser measure devices, we suggest you use them as a double check only.
  • Allowances for brackets are made at the factory - do not factor this in yourself.
  • We take a deduction off the width and height you order.

Tools Required:

  1. Metal tape measure + Pen + Paper

Step 1 - Decide Inside Fit or Outside Fit

Decide if you want the blind to fit "inside" or "outside" the window frame. Scan the window and check that no handles or objects will interfere with the operation of the blind. Generally blinds are fitted inside the recess, unless there is not enough room. The depth required within the frame for a 50mm Wood Look or Wooden Venetian is 70mm. You can have less than this and still fit inside the frame e.g. 50mm, but the compromise is some of the blind will sit proud of the frame.

Step 2 - Measuring

After deciding on inside or outside fit, start measuring. Always measure the width first then height, in millimetres. Using a metal tape measure, measure width in three places (top, middle and bottom), where there is a difference of a few millimetres use the smallest measurement. Keep in mind the measurement at the top is important as this where the brackets are to be positioned. But be sure to check if frame "kicks in" anywhere.

Measure the height in three places, left, middle, right and again use the smallest measurement. Be accurate.

- For inside fit, measure from one end of the recess to the other, and same for drop.

- For outside fit, measure from the outside edge of the frame on the left to the outside frame on the right. Then same again for the drop.

Step 3 - Control Side

Choose a control side, usually the easiest side to get to. The controls for a 50mm Venetian are two cords, one for tilting, one of lifting. Unless Blind is very narrow, both controls will be on the same side. If blind is less than 400mm wide, it is likely you will end up with split controls, one left and one right, you need to specify your preference in the order comments.

That means the tilt cord and lifting cord will be at opposite ends as there isn't enough room inside track to have both mechanism on same side. On the online order you can only pick one control side. But in comment section you can request which end is tilt and which end is lift if this applies to you. Contact us if you need more information for any of the above.

Step 4 - Cleats - Hold Downs - Returns

If you would like a cleat to hold excess cords, please request these in the order comments.

If you are ordering for a narrow window next to a door, you can request hold down clips in the order comments.

You could also request a return for the side of the blind that is exposed to the room. A return is a side piece of pelmet to cover the exposed side of the track.

Order comments are found after you have added all items to the cart. Once you have entered your address you will see a box called comments, here you can provide any order notes.
